The unfolding of a 3D scene onto a 2D manifold shows up in the Computer Graphics world under three ongoing areas of research: camera models (scene projection), surface parameterization and visual perception. Artistically, they mark ends of a spectrum of techniques for depicting a 3D scene, possibly with relative motion between the scene and artist, on a 2D canvas. Here we combine and explore the space-between linear perspective projection and surface parameterization to provide better interactive control over artistic and scientific presentation of 3D scenes as 2D imagery. We also look to using results in visual perception of 2D imagery to create illusions of depth and motion.
