Team Overview

The Beatrice Aeros continued their long winning history by capturing the 1998 Provincial Championships - the 9th in 10 years. The 1998 Provincial final was a thrilling and exciting game against the Mississauga Chiefs - the Aeros winning at 2:25 of the overtime, 3 - 2.

The Aeros current roster has three players who are currently with Team Canada - Geraldine Heaney, Cassie Campbell and Becky Kellar - three players that played for Team Canada in the past - Cheryl Pounder, Angela James and Amanda Benoit - and added to the mix is Sari Krooks of Team Finland, Olympic bronze medalists. Also, the Aeros are proud that five of their younger players have been invited to the final evaluation camp for Team Canda and are therfore considered among the top forty players in the country. The Aeros represent many communities in Ontario and some players commute from places like Peterborough, Waterloo, Kincardine and Welland, driving as much as two hours each way for games and practices.

The Aeros have been National Champions twice, the last time was in 1993. In 1998 the team won it's fourth National Silver medal, losing 3-2 to Alberta in overtime.

In addition to league play, the Aeros are very active in promoting female hockey across much of southern Ontario. The club hosts clinics and coaching seminars, participates in structured practices with local youngsters and plays exhibition games against various other teams. Recently the team played games in aid of mentally challenged youngsters and games against the Metropolitan Toronto Police and CITY-TV.

The club's objective is to provide the very best atmosphere to develop individual players and to build a winning team. This objective is gained by supplying the time and staff for each player to reach her highest level of ability, for each player to meet her personal goals and for each player to have fun in hockey. Many members of this organization volunteer their knowledge and abilities back to the game they love. Some by coaching , some by refereeing and others by assisting with the work of teams in other O.W.H.A. organizations.. Also, seven players with this year's team will contribute to their University's hockey program.

Coach's Comment

I'm really looking forward to this coming season. The Aeros will have a fast, strong, skilled team and we know the league will be very competitive this year. The Toronto teams of : Beatrice Aeros, Mississauga Chiefs, Scarborough Sting, with the addition of Brampton, Ottawa and the three Quebec teams will really establish this league as the best league for female hockey in the world.
