CSC 2522 Exercises #1

  1. With the sun at zenith, a photographic camera takes a picture of a scene, using black-and-white film, with an exposure time of 1/250 sec. What exposure time should be used at night, with a full moon at zenith, to get the same picture? Some useful lunar data may be found here.

  2. A diver's head is 1 meter below the surface of quiet water. What is the area of the water's surface through which s/he can see the air above? If the sun is overhead, what is the irradiance on the diver's head?

  3. Derive the irradiance due to a line segment source of light. State your assumptions, if any.

  4. Consider a reflective sphere (a gazing ball), a point light, and your eye. Create an algorithm that gives the point on the sphere where the light's image is seen.
