Health Requirements of Caring Canine Doctor Dogs

 

 

Basic Requirements

 

Your dog must be at least one year old on the date of evaluation.  

 

Your dog must be healthy.  It must not carry any infectious or contagious disease.  Furthermore, it should be clean and groomed.  It must not have any fleas, ticks, or lice.  Its nails should be short and filed.  Its hairs should be combed without tangles.  Its ears and teeth should be clean.

 

 

Vaccination Requirements

 

All vaccinations expire one year from the date of vaccination unless the expiration date(s) is (are) stated explicitly on the certificate.  Your dog must have the following up-to-date vaccinations:

 

1)      Rabies is mandatory.  (Veterinarian’s signature on the certificate is required!)

 

AND

 

2)      DHPP or DA2PP (Distemper, Hepatitis or Adenovirus-2, Parainfluenza, Parvovirus) are required unless explicitly exempted by your veterinarian.

 

AND

 

3)      Leptospirosis is at your veterinarian’s discretion.  It is required if your dog visits the farms or rural areas, chases after small animals (e.g. squirrels), or drinks from street puddles.

 

 

Parasite/Worm-Control Requirements

 

You must show one of the followings as proof that your dog is worm-free (including hook worms and round worms).  Please consult your veterinarian to decide on the best option for your dog.

 

1)      Stool check result indicating that your dog is parasite-free or worm-free.   The stool check must be done within the last 12 months.

 

OR

 

2)      A bill, a statement from the veterinarian clinic, or a photocopy of the package showing that your dog is on Sentinel or Revolution Package for the current season.  If submitting a package, your dog’s name and the expiration date must be on it.  

 

OR

 

3)      Statement from your veterinarian office showing that you dog has been de-wormed within the last six months or during the annual checkup.

 

 

 After Your Team Has Joined Us

 

A complete health guideline for our therapy dogs will be given to you before the orientation.  The annual vaccination and parasite-free requirements are the same as listed above.   Additional details and guidelines will be discussed and reviewed in our health guideline.
