Hand Model
The following videos show the difference between the traditional
IK solution, and the hand model solution generated by our technique.
C-Major Scale
The following videos were generated by the system. The first uses only
the IK solution, while the second uses the hand model extension. Notice how
the first video looks mechanical and unnatural because the fingers are
moving independently. In both videos, the guitar player correctly begins to
play with the middle finger in order to minimize the wrist movement.
Chord Transitions
The guitar player algorithm is able to choose fingerings
appropriate for playing chords. Bar chords are also handled by the
system. The following videos demonstrate an example of the guitar
controller integrating chord fingerings with single note-fingerings.
Notice that in the video using simple IK, the middle finger doesn't
move when it is not used leading to a stiff, mechanical look. The
example using the hand model has the middle finger move and twitch
even when it is not being used to play, leading to more natural looking
motion.
Bar Chords
The following video shows the result of playing bar chords. The
IK and the hand model solution are very similar because all the fingers
are used in a stable configuration.
